She married LaVern F. Schmitz on April 9, 1951, in Lancaster, Wis.; he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1992. She had worked at Clinton Engines, Jackson County Public Hospital in food service, Pester Derby Co. and was a co-owner and operator of Hayes Cafe, and Pronto Pizza, all in Maquoketa. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. She was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed doing word search puzzles and loved spending time with her family. Surviving are her children, Doug (Marian) Schmitz, Marlene (Tom) Bendixen and Dianne Fuller, all of Maquoketa, Greg (Roxanne) Schmitz, of Baldwin, and Bill (Denise) Schmitz and Denise (Jeff) Swanson, both of Maquoketa; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Franck, of Albany, Ill; a son-in-law, Don Buck, of Baldwin; 15 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Sturmer, of Lancaster, Wis., Lorraine Lee and Marie Knutson, both of Platteville, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Mabel Sudmeier, of Lancaster, and Betty Sudmeier, of Platteville. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ervin in 1996; a daughter, Sharon Buck, in 2005; and a granddaughter, Wendy Buck in 2000.
