Mrs. Harms was born December 21, 1894, in Sioux County, rural Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Cecelia (Gandy) Grau, who were farmers. The family later moved to the south edge of Le Mars, where they operated a dairy. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1913, and employed at Koenig Drug Store prior to her marriage to Herman Harms on April 11, 1917, in Le Mars. The couple farmed west of Brunsville, and Herman operated the Brunsville Elevator for many years. During their retirement the couple built a new home in Brunsville. She had been a resident of Brentwood since March of 1987. Mrs. Harms was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she had been an organist for 23 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and quilting. She belonged to the garden club and card club. Survivors include a son and his wife, Willis "Bill" and Joyce Harms of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Wilma and Wilmer Lehnhoff of Arnolds Park, Iowa, Genevieve and Francis Schultz of Cabazon, California, and Mildred and Phil Groetken of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband August 18, 1985; and three infant children.
