Lillian was born August 3, 1909 to Abraham and Marit (Rye) Rukstad on the family homestead north-east of Florence. She was the youngest of seven children. After graduation, she worked as a waitress in North Dakota before attending Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown from 1930 to 1933 with an R.N. certificate. She did private duty and regular nursing in South Dakota, Minnesota, Idaho, California and Washington. She served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy during WW II from July 1943 until January 1946. Lillian married Theodore F. Markve October 27, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The couple farmed near Summit from 1949 until 1966 after which they retired to Watertown. For the past 9 years, she has taken turns living with her children and their families. At the time of her death, she was living in Nevada at the home of her oldest daughter and family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church while living in Watertown. She especially enjoyed being with her family, visiting and entertaining. She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting and making greeting cards. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband. Survivors include her children; Mary Ann (David) Smith of Winnemucca, Nevada; Margaret Markve of Shakopee, Minnesota and Sandra (Robert) Pierson of Watertown; 4 grandsons and 1 great-grandson. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SJW # 46933521 provided links to parents. 8-16-2018
