It is just spelled differently. My name is spelled Lillyan and her name is spelled Lillian. We can't find a birth certificate, but my great grandfather told us that she was born in 1885. Her mother was Anna Marie Wright. We are not sure who Lillian's birth father is. Her mother had a daughter, Rosa __ years before Lillian was born. Her mother married a man named a C. A. Garritt. We don't know what happened to him. However, later her mother married Charles Henry Bentley. We don't know if he adopted Lillian; but, we know she went by his last name of BENTLEY. Lillian had three half-brothers (Charles, Henry, Marchie) and one half-sister (Manilla May) and the other half-sister (Rosa). Lillian was sick a lot during her life. In the 1900 U.S. Census, we found her as a patient in a hospital at age 13. In 1905, she was still in the same hospital. Years later, she was in the hospital again. She liked to collect postcards. While she was in the hospital, her friends and family would send her postcards to put in an album. My grandmother has some of them. One postcard is from her half brother, Henry Sherman Bentley. The picture on the front is of him in his WWI military uniform. Lillian didn't get married until she was 28 years old. She had five children in 9 years. At age 36 (death certificate) or 37 (cemetery), she died of pneumonia. She died when her youngest child was only 7 ½ months old. The oldest child was my great grandfather, Earnest. He was almost 7 years old when she died. Since the children were so young, her husband couldn't take care of them, while working at the same time. He kept Earnest the oldest who worked alongside him. Ida Mae (5 years old) was put in the Faith Home Bible School to live. Harold (3 years old) was adopted by the Peter Gunn family and named Charles W. Gunn. Lewis (22 months old) was adopted by the Elmer Loomer family and named Raymond Burdette Loomer, and the baby, Minnella (7 ½ months old) was adopted by Clyde and Lilly Washburn and named Jospehine Lou Washburn.
