She then moved to Sioux Falls and attended Franklin Elementary, Whittier Jr. High and graduated from Washington High School in 1939. After high school Lillian worked at Newberrys in Sioux Falls. She then moved to Sioux Falls and attended Franklin Elementary, Whittier Jr. High and graduated from Washington High School in 1939. After high school Lillian worked at Newberrys in Sioux Falls. Lillian married Donald L. Best on November 4, 1944. The couple had three children. They briefly lived in California from 1955 to 1959 when they moved back to Sioux Falls. She was a homemaker until 1959 when she began working for Lewis Drug. She worked for Lewis for 27 years as a cosmetic buyer for all the Lewis stores in Sioux Falls. After retiring from Lewis she enjoyed gardening, canning, and being in the outdoors. So many people also enjoyed her sense of humor. She was also a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dena Smykle (Iwerks); father, Arthur Smykle; and her son, Jim Best.
