Lillian McGee Whitman Faucett, 99, Grandview, was born May 13, 1911, in Charity, the daughter of Solomon Andrew and Dora Elizabeth (Selsor) McGee. She died Dec. 27, 2010. In 1918, tragedy struck this family by the death of her parents, leaving eight orphaned children. Shortly thereafter, she was accepted by foster parents, John and Effie Van Horn, who lived in the Prairie Grove community. She attended Kelly Elementary School, Charity High School and was a longtime member of the Prairie Grove Christian Church. She was united in marriage with Clarence Ray Whitman on June 30, 1928, and to this union two children were born. Death struck the family again when her husband died Oct. 28, 1943. She and the children went back to live in the Van Horn home. She married Elze Faucett on June 22, 1946. He died May 10, 2003. She was a hard-working woman who did everything necessary to take care of her family. She was a good cook and an excellent seamstress who did alterations for many in the community. Her lifestyle simple, she enjoyed life to the fullest. Because of calls and visitors, there was never a dull moment in her household. Neighbors, friends and acquaintances often dropped by to say hi, see if she needed anything, or for a cookie or piece of pie which was always ready in her kitchen. All enjoyed her company and wit. She was a very meticulous and persnickety woman. Her home was spotlessly clean and her yard and garden well-groomed. There was a time when she received recognition for having the best groomed yard of the month in Grandview, and it continued to be that way until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her son, Donald; her daughter, Nancy; and siblings: Dwight McGee, Doland McGee, Bea Meaker, Leola Routh, Floy Gregg, Valeta Meisner and Winona Nimmo. Survivors include her granddaughter, Kathy Whitman; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Winslow; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
