Services will be 2 p.m. today at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Mrs. Bowers was born June 24, 1923, in Dwight, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Anna (Hraban) Pospichal. She graduated from Ulysses (Neb.) High School. She was employed for 28 years as a club house manager at Sun Valley Golf Course, retiring in the mid 1980s. She was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed sports, baking, sewing and fishing. Mr. Bowers was born March 24, 1924, in Shubert, Neb., the son of Golda and Maude (Davis) Bowers. He was raised in Falls City, Neb., and graduated from Falls City High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, stationed in the South Pacific. He served in the Army National Guard from 1946 to 1948, then in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1948 to 1984. He had achieved the rank of command sergeant major at his retirement. He was employed as a meat cutter with Safeway in Sioux City, I.G.A. in South Sioux City and Sherman Produce in Sioux City until retiring. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Club and Sertoma Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. The Bowerses were married on March 20, 1944, in Bakersfield, Calif. They moved to Sioux City in 1956 from Shenadoah, Iowa. The couple's survivors include a daughter, Cindy Bowers of Sioux City; four sons, Ken and his wife, Joanne, of McCarr, Ky., Wayne and his wife, Kim, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Wes and his wife, Sue, of Sioux City and Doug of Pasco, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Jacob, Steven, April, Jamie and Rebecca; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mrs. Bowers are two sisters, Lucy Busko and El Jelinek, both of Seward, Neb. Also surviving Mr. Bowers is a sister, June Ege of Yakima, Wash. Pallbearers will be Gary, Todd, T.J. and Buzz Jelinek, Scott Lanagan and Gary Roan. A memorial has been established in the couple's name.
