Lillian Ruth Hodges was born Feb 26, 1877, at Cochituate, a suburb of Boston, Mass. Her father, Boardman Hodges took up a claim five miles west of Ellendale in Dakota Territory in 1882 and his wife and daughter joined him the following year. She attended school in Ellendale and after graduating from high school, taught school for four years. In 1900, she was united in marriage to Alex R. Wright and to this union two children were born, Edward who died in 1937, and Ruth, now Mrs. Kenneth Hanson of White Plains, N.Y. Mr. and Mrs. Wright moved to Oakes from Ellendale in 1903 when he became publisher of the Oakes Republican, which subsequently became the Oakes Times and was later sold to the present publishers, E.F. Bassingwaite and H.C. Edblom. Mrs. Wright was a member of the Presbyterian church and active in the ladies aid of the church. She joined the Eastern Star at Ellendale and was affiliated at Oakes on Jan. 19, 1905. She served as worth matron of the Oakes chapter O.E.S. in 1909 and had been a member of the Past Matrons Club since its inception. Surviving are Mr. Wright, their daughter, and three grandchildren.
