THOMAS – Lillie Estella Andrew was born November 12, 1863, at Fennimore, Wis. She died November 11, 1931, at her home in Geneva, Neb. She was married to Albert H. DeWitt at Lake Preston, S. D., March 11, 1890, and became the mother of two children, sons, both of whom survive: Claud A. DeWitt of Fairmont, Neb., and Vernon J. DeWitt of Concordia, Ks. Mr. DeWitt died October 12, 1912. She was married to William T. Thomas, November 11, 1915, who with her two sons, her aged father, John W. Andrew of Orchards, Wash., a brother, Ira, also of Orchards, a sister, Mrs. Harry Johnson of Ohiowa, Neb., nine grandchildren, and many other relatives, with a large circle of friends, mourn her passing. Mrs. Thomas came with her parents to Nebraska in 1871, settling near Geneva and with the exception of short residences in South Dakota and Oklahoma has made this vicinity her home since, and naturally has a wide circle of acquaintances and corresponding friends, for her friendships were only limited by her acquaintances. To know her was to love her. Her cheerful, sunshiny disposition and her attitude of helpfulness were magnetic and drew people to her instinctively. These spiritual characteristics made it easy for her to be led into the religious life and she accepted Christ as the inspiration of her life in early childhood. At once uniting with the church she has found her chiefest joy serving the church in her varied interests, teaching in the Sunday school, serving in the ladies' aid society, the home and foreign missionary societies with a fidelity seldom surpassed. She was always her pastor's inspiration in her home, at church, at prayer meeting and elsewhere. In addition to her church work, or rather as part of it, she was active in the work of the W. C. T. U. and other women's organizations in the community from time to time. She will greatly missed not only by her loved ones but by the church and community but the memory of her will always be treasured as a rich inheritance by those left behind. Her profound, unwavering faith in God and her unswerving fidelity to Him and His church leave no doubt in the minds of her friends of her entering into her “inheritance over there.” The funeral service was conducted at the Geneva Methodist church at 2:30 p. m., Frida by Rev. W. H. Shoaf, assisted by Rev. David Tudor and Rev. E. H. Pontius. Music was furnished by four ladies, Mrs. E. L. Cumberland, Mrs. Will Myers, Mrs. F. M. Holtz and Mrs. J. B. McGreer, members of the missionary society of the church selected by Mrs. Thomas during her illness. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
