She passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the West Point Living Center in West Point, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years. Gene attended school in Tekamah. She began playing organ at First Baptist Church in Tekamah around the age of 18 and continued playing after her move to Lyons until her illness lessened her skills. She passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the West Point Living Center in West Point, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years. Gene attended school in Tekamah. She began playing organ at First Baptist Church in Tekamah around the age of 18 and continued playing after her move to Lyons until her illness lessened her skills. Gene married the love of her life, Samuel L. Thompson, on February 26, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. They had one son, Jason. Sam was the third generation to farm the family farm in rural Lyons, which they did until April 2006. Sam passed away on April 20, 2006. Gene cherished family. Every family member and friend knew they were always welcome at Gene and Sam's. They warmly extended invitations to their home for fellowship and numerous family gatherings. Gene enjoyed sharing her farm life with nieces and nephews. She helped them bake cookies and bread; taught them to embroider and sew; and allowed them to experience the farm she and Sam loved. Experiences on the farm included catching wild cats, walking barefoot in mud down a bean row, dismantling newly stacked hay, riding pigs and calves, bringing in the cows, herding runaway pigs, picking eggs, and riding the tractor with Sam. Memories such as these are fondly shared by now-grown children who were afforded the opportunity to visit Aunt Gene and Uncle Sam. Gene's hobbies included quilting, gardening, entertaining, singing, and playing the piano and organ. She loved the times when the family would gather around the piano and sing. Gene's smile, her voice, her loving touch, and warm embrace will be forever missed and long remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam; sister-in-law: Norma Clausen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Walter and Geraldine Thompson. Survivors include her son: Jason of Lyons; brother: Retired CSM US Army Alfred Clausen of Dixon, Missouri; sisters and brothers-in-law: Elizabeth and Oren Knight of Omaha, Nebraska, Verah Lallman of Arlington, Nebraska, Nada and Pastor Dale Shadonix of Ottumwa, Iowa, Waletta Elske of Tekamah, Harriet Litel of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Harold and Hazel Thompson of Moline, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, June 21, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, Nebraska BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery VISITATION: Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Visitation will also be held Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS: First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.
