Description	:	Lillie Mae Hughes Sykes was born to (John?) Stephen Augustus Hughes and Jemima/Jenuia/Jennie D. Phillips Hughes. Lillie's mother, Jennie, brought three children into the marriage: Burk Phillips/Bert Deans, Sarah Johnnie Phillips, and William Phillips/William Deans. After Great-Grandma Jennie D. Phillips Hughes died, sometime between 1897 and 1900, the three Phillips children and Grandma Lillie were all raised by Jerry and Anna Jane "Emegin" Deans. The fact that Gr-Grandpa Hughes took all four of the children to the Hughes family to raise suggests that the "D" in Jemima's name possibly may have stood for her maiden name. It may have been Deans, but we have no proof of that yet. In her daughter's marriage information, she is listed as Jennie D. Phillips, mother of Sarah Johnnie Phillips. They can all (including Great-Grandpa John Stephens Hughes) be seen living in the Deans' Household as boarders in the 1900 census for Stoney Creek area. The children's ages listed on the census were: 16 (Burk/Bert), 14 (Sarah Johnnie), 13 (William) & 4 (Lillie). Grandma Lillie married Percy Sykes on Sept. 18 1915. They had three children: Marvin Earl "Dick" Sykes, John Henry "Pat/Pad" Sykes (our Father) and Mary Nancy Sykes Hales. Early in Grandpa and Grandma Sykes' marriage, (Anna) Jane Deans (68 years old) is listed in the 1920 Census as Grandma Lillie's "mother" who was living with them. Grandma Lillie passed on Sept. 7, 1939 when her children were only 16 (Uncle Marvin), 14 (Our Father Pat), & 7 (Aunt Nancy) years old. Like her birth mother Jemima D. Phillips Hughes, Grandma Lillie passed when her children were very young. Any information, no matter how small, on any of these family members will be so, very appreciated.
