Source: Edgewood Reminder, Wed., January 17, 1962, pg. 1 Lincoln Smith - Death & Obituary Lincoln Richard Smith was born July 4, 1869, on a farm 8 miles north of Edgewood, Iowa. After a brief illness he departed this life at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 1962, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home at the age of 92 years and 6 months. He attended school and grew to manhood in that vicinity. After his father's death he remained on the farm and made a home for his widowed mother. Lincoln was a quiet unassuming Christian person, a member of the Methodist Church and a believer in Christ as his personal Savior. He was engaged in farming and many real estate projects during his life. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, William and Sarah Smith, two sisters, Mary Knolen and Lucy Adams and three brothers, William J., Robert, and George. Surviving are one brother, Enever T. Smith of Beatrice, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews. Lincoln was laid to rest beside his parents and brother, Robert in the family lot in Green Hill Cemetery. Though he has outlived his generation, he will be greatly missed. we like to think of him as just being away for a short time. Services were held Friday, January 5th, at the Appleton Funeral Home by Rev. Floyd Cripps. Realto Wold sang "Nearer My God To Thee," accompanied at the organ by Miss Jennie Forward. Casket bearers were: Francis Thurn, Fern and Harlan Weyant, Paul Peuker, Lloyd Bushaw, and Otto Berens with interment in the Green Hill Cemetery. Contributor: jmb (47320890)
