Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Central City with Pastor Richard Kothe officiating. Linda Lou (Meyer) Gilson, the daughter of Earl and Harriett (Ruhe) Meyer was born on January 29th, 1955 in Grand Island, NE. She grew up on a farm near Worms, where she attended Zion Lutheran school and graduated from Central City High school in 1973. She went on to study Education at Kearney State College. She taught the entirety of her 37-year career at Polk-Hordville and High Plains Community schools, teaching Home Economics/ Family Consumer Sciences while leading the yearbook committee and also coaching volleyball. On June 19th, 1982 she married Douglas Lowell Gilson in Worms, NE. They went on to create a home and family in Central City. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild, and served as Zone President of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Her relationship with the Lord was something she cherished deeply. In 2019 she received the Merrick County 4-H Excellence Lifetime Volunteer Award for the volunteer work she did with 4-H & extension programs. She enjoyed golfing, Husker Athletics, quilting, her and Doug creating and sharing their Disney Christmas display with the community, and anything with butterflies. She is survived by her sons, Patrick Gilson (Ashley Duda) of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Anthony Gilson of Denver, CO; sisters, Gloria (Marlo) Broekemeier of Marquette, Susan (Ritch) Anderson of Fuquay Varina, NC; brothers, Bill (Shari) Meyer of Central City, John Meyer of Bradshaw; brother and sister-in-law Dan (JoAnn) Gilson of Aurora; and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas L. Gilson; her parents; her nephew, Taylor Meyer; her husband's parents, Dale and Lois Gilson; and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Thelma Gilson. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
