Lillian St., died at 2:29 p.m. May 26, 2014, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born June 9, 1943, in Ottumwa to James E. and Patricia Ann Blubaugh Vandello. She married Frank Akers on August 15, 1964. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, she and her husband owned and operated Morrows Bakery. She then worked more than 20 years for Social Security Administration, where she retired. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she played the organ for close to 30 years. She was also in charge of liturgical music and served on the worship and prayer committee. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and volunteered at Agassiz Elementary School for 13 years. Surviving are her husband, Frank; a daughter, Molly (Dennis) Callas of Ottumwa; a son, Michael (Lisa) Akers of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Michael and Justin; her mother, Pat Vandello of Ottumwa; three sisters, Laura (Stan) Shaw of Omaha, Neb., Margaret (Troy Huffman) Stribling of Eldon, Monica (Greg) Malott of New London; two brothers, James “Pat” (Carol) Vandello of Denver, Colo., Tom (Alice) Vandello of Ottumwa; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a stillborn son, David Frank Akers. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a Christian Wake Service. The family will be present until 7 p.m.
