Description	:	Linda S. Janssen, 53, Lincoln, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 after a courageous battle against cancer. Born February 21, 1958 in Syracuse to Dale and Leola (Zabel) Janssen. Linda was an accomplished athlete at Syracuse High School and then went on to be a rare two sport letter-winner in college, playing both basketball and softball at the University of Nebraska. Born February 21, 1958 in Syracuse to Dale and Leola (Zabel) Janssen. Linda was an accomplished athlete at Syracuse High School and then went on to be a rare two sport letter-winner in college, playing both basketball and softball at the University of Nebraska. She graduated from UNL as a Chancellor's Scholar in 1980 and went on to teach business education courses for 31 years, the last 29 at Irving Middle School in Lincoln. Linda loved participating in and following many sports and was a member of the UNL Softball On Deck Circle and Volleyball Match Club. She was also recently a volunteer venue director for the 2010 National Special Olympics in Lincoln. Linda was a member of Southwood Lutheran Church and participated on a 2009 Southwood mission trip to Honduras. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling and visited most U.S. States as well as many countries in Europe and Asia. She also enjoyed traveling with her friends, often to Husker games in various sports or to other sporting events. Linda is survived by her faithful companion Jeter; her parents Dale and Leola Janssen of Syracuse; sister Nadine Grosshans and fiance Mike Durnal of Lincoln; brothers/sisters-in-law Wes and Terri Janssen of Syracuse, Ray and Patty Janssen of Syracuse, and Don and Kathi Janssen of Lincoln. She is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews (and spouses) who played a very important role in her life: Erin Vyhlidal (Jason); Allison Kelberlau (Darin); Leslie Nekola (Jeff); Jocelyn Pearson (Andy); Kevin Grosshans (Katie); Laurel Kreifels (Zeb); Barry Janssen (Jenny); Phil Janssen; Wade Janssen (Jill); Rachel Janssen; Ashley Janssen and Haley Janssen. Additional survivors include 14 great nieces/nephews, other extended family and many close friends. Linda was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Walter and Clara Janssen, and Fred and Minnie Zabel, and by her faithful companion Niner.
