Linda Werre was born on August 29, 1956, in Jamestown, ND to Arthur and Esther (Zimmerman) Werre. Linda graduated from Napoleon High School in 1974. She married Gaylynn L. Becker on October 5, 1974 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Napoleon, ND. She attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Vocational Home Economics Education. She was the home economics teacher in Wishek Public High School in Wishek and at Simle Middle School in Bismarck. On July 7, 1983 Linda gave birth to Karl Becker. She was very proud of her son for his many accomplishments as well as being a great son. She enjoyed listening to his piano playing. Karl is Linda's greatest legacy. In 1994 Linda received her M.Ed. in Counseling from North Dakota State University in Fargo. Linda then worked for 15 years as the school counselor at Christ the King School, Mary Stark Elementary School, and Collins Elementary School in Mandan, ND. She also served as the high school counselor at New Salem-Almont High School in New Salem, ND. She enjoyed helping others – especially students. While growing up Linda was active in Glueckstal Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School and a Bible School teacher. She was an active member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, ushered and was a reader. Linda enjoyed flowers and her favorite hobby was gardening. Each year she would also pot many plants for the patio, deck and front yard. She also enjoyed family, friends, cooking, and sewing. Linda also enjoyed writing. She wrote many "Career Corner" articles in the New Salem Journal Newspaper. She also had an interest in preserving a church and the history of the church. She wrote a book "Glueckstal Lutheran Church: A Link to the Past, an Extension of Faith." She served for the past 17 years on the Glueckstal Church Cemetery Board. She would like to see the Glueckstal Church building stay standing for generations to come. Linda was very active in the North Dakota Counseling Association, North Dakota School Counselors' Association and the North Dakota Mental Health Counselors' Association. She served on the North Dakota Counseling Association Governing Board for many years. Linda was the recipient of the "2011 North Dakota Mental Health Counselor of the Year Award." Linda is survived by her husband Dr. Gaylynn L. Becker of Bismarck, ND; their son Karl Becker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her mother Esther (Zimmerman) Werre of Napoleon, ND; two sisters and brothers-in-law Sylvia (Tom) Scherr of Billings, MT., and Sharon (Robert) Gengler of Jamestown, ND; one brother and sister-in-law Jeff (Sue) Werre of Bismarck, ND. Her father Arthur Werre preceded Linda in death.
