He was born on August 20, 1924, in Campbell, MO to Francis and Elsie Williams. Although born in Missouri, Lin grew up in Flint, MI. Williams, age 90, passed away at home on August 23, 2014, with his wife and daughter at his side. He was born on August 20, 1924, in Campbell, MO to Francis and Elsie Williams. Although born in Missouri, Lin grew up in Flint, MI. In 1941 he left Central High School early and joined the CCCs doing forestry work. Lin was only 17 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. In 1942 he enlisted in the 4th U.S. Cavalry. After basic training in Fort Meade, SD, he went to California for desert training. In 1943 his unit was sent to England. Lin was most proud that his units, the 4th and 24th Cavalry Units were the first ones in France on D-Day. He was sent to Germany when the war ended and was discharged on October 4, 1945. Lin received the following medals: Good Conduct, the American Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign and Silver Star Attachment (Single), World War II Victory, Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II, Sharp Shooter Badge and Machine Gun Bar, Marksman Badge and Carbine, Pistol, Rifle and Submachine Gun Bars. Following his discharge, Lin worked for various employers in Detroit and Flint, MI. In Flint, he took a job with General Motors and after 30 years, he retired as a supervisor at Chevrolet Flint Metal Fab. Following retirement, Lin moved to Iowa where he met his wife Jan Lysinger Boswell. After wintering a few years in Texas, Lin and Jan moved to Harlingen, TX permanently. Lin was a 32nd Degree Mason and active for over 50 years. He was also President of his Shrine Club in 1972. Lin was an avid golfer and took great interest in maintaining the Cottonwood Course, where he achieved 8 holes in one. He loved music (his favorite song was "I did it my way"), dancing, watching sports on TV, and helping his friends and neighbors. Lin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethel; former wife Gladis Maxine; two sisters, Evelyn Balance and Mathel Ford; and daughter, Barbara Nemets. He is survived by his wife, Janice Lysinger Williams of Harlingen, TX; brothers, Nathan (Nancy) Williams of Mt. Morris, MI and Gerald (Rachel) Williams of La Feria, TX; daughter, Judy (Randy) Church of Davison, MI; stepsons, Allan Boswell (Joan Givens) of Austin, TX, Brad (Jane) Boswell of Pella, IA, Craig (Renae) Boswell of Mustang, OK, and Dan (Loretta) Boswell of Byers, CO; grandchildren, Ron Nemets, Aaron Church and Eric Church; step-grandchildren, The Boswells: Ashley, Brett, Ryan, Colin, Bryn, Kristen, Karrie, Justin, Kayne, and Jacob; eight great-grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family, Melanie Ross and son, Brandon. No services are planned as he was able to attend his own Celebration of Life with family and friends last November at the Cottonwood Creek Country Club. As per his wishes cremation has already taken place. Thanks are extended to family and friends, who lovingly cared for Lin and a special thank you to his hospice nurse, Michele Trevorah.
