A few days ago the deceased had the misfortune to slip and fall while descending a flight of stairs. From this she received internal injuries and finally grew so bad on Sunday evening death ensued in spite of all that could be done to save her. She leaves a husband and two small children to mourn her death. The funeral takes place at 2 o’clock this afternoon from the residence on west 5th street. ______ Fremont Weekly Herald, April 3, 1884, p. 4, col. 5 Fatal Accident. About a week ago, Mrs. Rica Godel, wife of Herman Godel, met with an accident, which though not at first thought serious, was finally attended with fatal results. She was descending the stairs of their residence and in some way missed her footing and fell. She continued with her household duties until Friday last, when her strength gave way. Medical aid was summoned, but her condition rapidly grew worse, and on Sunday evening death resulted, in spite of all efforts to avert the calamity. The deceased leaves her husband and two children, aged about two and four years, to mourn her untimely death, and the whole community, who know Mr. Godel as a steady, industrious young man, will join in heartfelt sympathy for him and his little children, bereft so early in life of a mother's care and protection. The funeral will be held from the residence on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. '''''''''''' p. 8, col. 3 Notwithstanding the severe weather of Tuesday, the funeral of the late Mrs. Godel was attended by a very large number of people, both of this city, and from the surrounding country. The funeral services were very impressive, and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Swing.
