His grandparents, William and Johanna Dietrich, at Sawyer, North Dakota raised him. His name was legally changed to Dietrich when he was 15 years old. His schooling was in Sawyer, North Dakota. He moved with his grandparents to Lodi, California in 1941. Lloyd enlisted in the Army on November 19, 1951, and spent 13 months and 6 days in Korea. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon his return to the United States, Lloyd entered the Army Chemical Division where he was rated Top Secret. He was deployed to various locations in the United States during his tenure. He was discharged September 21, 1955 as a Staff Sergeant. On May 20, 1954 he was united in marriage to Barbara Smith at the EUB Church in Aurora. They farmed southwest of Aurora, moving to the farm southwest of Marquette in 1956. Three children were born to this union: Laura, Brenda and Barry. Lloyd had a total of 15 half brothers and sisters: James, Ronald and Garry Heizelman, Janice Knippelberg, Judy Hystad and Ardis Aasen; brothers, Virgil, Jimmy and Darrell Grauman, and sisters, Cynthia Reins and Barbara Grauman. Lloyd was an avid gun collector and traveled for many winters to gun shows. His love for hunting elk was 30 years. He also loved fishing and had become a collector of lures. Lloyd was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Deets, his father, and brothers, Virgil and Darrell Grauman. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara of Aurora; three children, Laura (Tom) Deets of Pleasanton, Brenda (Don) Wohlgemuth of Holdrege and Barry (Rhonda) Dietrich of Marquette; 8 grandchildren, Thad Deets, Russell Deets, Shane Wohlgemuth, Chase Wohlgemuth, Kelsi Wohlgemuth, Joshua Dietrich, Gabe Dietrich and Paige Dietrich; his mother, Laura Grauman. Lloyd's half brothers and sisters: James, Ronald and Garry Heizelman, Janice Knippelberg, Judy Hystad and Ardis Aasen; brother, Jimmy Grauman, and sisters, Cynthia Rains and Barbara Grauman.
