Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Church, Farnhamville, with Pastor Crystal Oberheu officiating. Burial will be in Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan, with military rites by American Legion Post #510 of Farnhamville. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Lloyd is survived by his children, Bob and Sandy Hicks of Gowrie, Barb and Rod Peterson of Gowrie, Julie Worrel, Polk City, and Rose Mary Hicks, wife of the late Ed Hicks, Des Moines; step-children, Nancy and Ken Jolliffe, Marion and Tom Stringer, Carroll. He has 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Ethel Hicks, first wife, Vera, second wife, Irene, brother, Darrell Hicks, sister, Dorothy Dunlap, and son, Edward Glen Hicks. Lloyd Edward Hicks was born June 26, 1920, to Orval and Ethel (Stewart) Hicks at Adaza, IA. He attended school in Adaza and Churdan, graduating from Van Meter High School. He was united in marriage to Vera Schneider in May, 1942. They lived in various locations while he served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. They moved back to Iowa and Lloyd began farming in 1948, moving to the Farnhamville area in 1954 and living there throughout most of his life. His first wife, Vera, died in September, 1981 and he married Irene Stringer in October, 1983. They made their home in Farnhamville and then moved to Gowrie in September, 2004. Irene passed away in October, 2004. Lloyd had made his home at Gowrie Care Center since October, 2004. He served on the Farmers Co-operative Elevator Board for 22 years, the area FmHA Board for 4 years, United Methodist Church Board and was a 60+ year member of American Legion Post #510 of Farnhamville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge, or First United Church, Farnhamville.
