Description	:	Lloyd was the son of Meredith Denney (his first name baffling census enumerators and office clerks who came up with these variations: Marilda, Merida, Meridith, Moridith, et als.) and Elizabeth Ann Epler, who married on 26 Apr 1860 in Kosciusko Co., Indiana. According to Elizabeth in both 1900 and 1910, the couple had eleven children together. (Aug 1869 – 25 Aug 1941), Joseph Ezra (1872 – 1926), Lloyd Elmer (20 Mar 1878 – 23 Jan 1962), John Oscar (12 Mar 1883 – 19 Apr 1918), and Delta (29 Dec 1884 – 15 Mar 1965). I found the family on the 1870 Census, living in Harrison Township, Kosciusko Co., Indiana. Meredith, aged 30, was engaged in farm labor. Elizabeth, aged 27, was tending to their four children—Francis (aka Alvin), aged 8, Sarah, aged 5, George, aged 3, and William, aged 1. The 1880 Census placed the family in Lake Township in Kosciusko County. Meredith Denney, aged 40, was busy farming. Elizabeth, aged 37, was keeping house, a house that included six children—Alvin, aged 17, Sarah, aged 15, George, aged 13, William, aged 11, Ezra, aged 9, and Lloyd, aged 3. Son John would join the family about three years later. If the 1890 Census were still around, it would have been the only record on which son John would have appeared. By the 1900 Census, he was already out on his own. Lloyd was still living at home with his parents in 1900. They were zoned into Jackson Township in Kosciusko County. Meredith Denney, aged 60, was noted as a nursery salesman. Elizabeth, aged 57, reported that she had had eleven children, but that only eight had survived to that census. Only three children were still living at home—Wesley (aka George), aged 33 and noted as a hay merchant, Lloyd, aged 22 and noted as a day laborer, and Delta, aged 15 and attending school. Three years after that census, Lloyd married first-wife Bertha C. Walburn three days before Christmas on 22 Dec 1903 in Kosciusko County. They eventually divorced and Lloyd moved back in with his parents. Eighteen days into a new year and a new decade, Lloyd’s father Meredith Denney died on 18 Jan 1910 at age 69. A few months later, the family appeared without him, still living in Jackson Township in Kosciusko County. Head of household was Lloyd’s mother Elizabeth Denney, aged 78. Lloyd, divorced, aged 30, was cutting hair and shaving beards, employed as a barber. The following year, Lloyd gave love another chance, wedding second-wife Martha R. Noel (nee Kutcher) the week before Christmas on 18 Dec 1911 in Warsaw, Kosciusko County. They also appear to have divorced at some point. I found a possible record for Lloyd in 1920. A lodger enumerated as Floyd Denney of the right age--42, noted as divorced, was living in Warsaw, Kosciusko County, noted as a teamster, which in those days referred to someone who hauled goods for others, their fees determined by a national union of sorts. It may or may not have been Lloyd, but I didn’t find a Lloyd Denney elsewhere. On 18 Nov 1928, Lloyd lost mother Elizabeth Denny, aged 85. I am relatively certain I found Lloyd, divorced, aged 52, living in Jackson Township in Kosciusko County on the 1930 Census. His last name was transcribed as Dermir but the original record appears to read Lloyd Dennie. He was working as a well digger at that time and lodging with James Fisher. The 1940 Census caught back up with Lloyd, living in Clay Township in Kosciusko County. He was lodging with Ada Warren, her son and his wife. Aged 62, Lloyd was noted as a hired hand. On his 27 Apr 1942 WWII registration, Lloyd Kenney, aged 64, reported that he was living in Clay Township in Kosciusko County, Indiana, and working for Walter Drudge. Lloyd’s sister Delta Caywood was noted as that person who would always know his address. He measured in at 5’9” tall and weighed in at 180 lbs., with grey eyes and hair and a ruddy complexion. Lloyd will appear on two more census enumerations in 1950 and 1960. He passed away on 23 Jan 1962 at age 83.
