Description	:	Son of Chester and Louise (Manter) Downs Married Grace E Simpson on 26 March 1914 in Winslow, Maine In 1916, he was working as a laborer in Waterville, Maine Divorced sometime between 1920 and 1924, when Grace remarried Married Jennie Patterson on 24 December 1940 Enlisted in the National Guard at Waterville on 25 February 1916. Promoted to sergeant on 23 September 1916. Reported for Federal Service on 13 April 1917. Discharged on 16 April 1917 as having dependent relatives. Served with Company H, 2nd Maine Infantry. No overseas service. Lloyd E. Downs Hartland – Lloyd E. Downs, 79, died Oct. 21 at a Waterville nursing home after a long illness. He was born at Stockton, Nov. 9, 1892, the son of Charles and Louise (Mantes) Downs. He had resided in Hartland for the past 15 years, previously residing in Clinton. He had worked in construction most of his life. He is survived by his widow, Jennie of Hartland; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Nelson of Fairfield and Mrs. Florence Riley of Skowhegan; two stepsons, Roland Nichols of Fairfield ad Ralph Nichols of Connecticut; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Leroy Witham of Hartland; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel at Hartland. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland. (Bangor Daily News, Monday 23 October 1972, p21)
