Mr. VanAusdall was born July 21, 1917, at Graham Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Luman H. and Ellen C. Atterberg VanAusdall. He married Lucile Johnson on September 28, 1940 in Sandusky, Iowa. "Chug" VanAusdall, 91, of Keokuk died at 11:43 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. Mr. VanAusdall was born July 21, 1917, at Graham Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Luman H. and Ellen C. Atterberg VanAusdall. He married Lucile Johnson on September 28, 1940 in Sandusky, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2003. He had lived in the Keokuk/Hamilton area all his life. He started in the farm equipment business with his brother Ken in 1938 and they operated the business for 20 years. He and his wife Lucile took over the business and operated Allis–Chalmers Implement, serving the Tri-State area for forty years. While he was in business he enjoyed his work and visiting with his customers and friends. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, past member of Iowa Implement Dealers Association and Royal Aces Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed his father and brothers harness racing. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by daughter Barbara Malone and her husband Michael of Winston, Missouri, and son, John VanAusdall and his fiancé Minda Meister of Keokuk; three grandchildren, Kirt Malone and his wife Debbie of Palmyra, Missouri, Kelley Uthe and her husband Jerald of Winston, Missouri and Brandon VanAusdall of Keokuk; sister, Virginia "Tootie" Swagel and her husband Gene of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Jack VanAusdall of Salem, Illinois; eight great grandchildren, Kalesa, Chandler, Ty, Cy, Skye, and Kanden of Winston, Missouri and Brock and Kaden of Palmyra, Missouri; and nieces & nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Ken, Arnold "Bus", Luman "June", Pete, and Max; and one sister Esther. Funeral service were Saturday, January 17, 2009, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial followed at Sandusky Cemetery, north of Keokuk. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
