Description	:	Lloyd Max Trosper, a retired pre-mix concrete contractor, died Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. at Memory Manor Nursing Home of cancer. He was 67. He was born June 26, 1916, on a ranch near Mayview to Lloyd and Maud Trosper. A resident of Garfield county all of his life, he begin his education in the old Mayview school. Read More	Lloyd Max Trosper, a retired pre-mix concrete contractor, died Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. at Memory Manor Nursing Home of cancer. He was 67. He was born June 26, 1916, on a ranch near Mayview to Lloyd and Maud Trosper. A resident of Garfield county all of his life, he begin his education in the old Mayview school. When his parents moved to Chard, he finished the grades in the Chard school. In 1929 the family moved to Pomeroy where Max finished high school. He excelled in athletics and was named guard on the 1935 All Southeastern Washington football honor team. He hauled wheat for "Swede" Herres for several years until he joined the army in March 1944. He served in the Army Engineers in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in China until June 1946. On October 3, 1948, he married Lillian Shultz, and they made their home at 310 N. 26h Street until the present time. On October 13, 1950, he received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserve Corps. In 1950, Max started his concrete business with a portable mixer. In 1953, he brought his first two mixer trucks and pioneered ready-mixed concrete in Garfield county. He operated a sand and gravel plant on the Snake River near Central Ferry for several years, and a concrete plant at Lacrosse. He has always been proud of all of his "landmarks" in the county such as the swimming pool, grade school, gymnasium, the Christian church, the nursing home and many others built with his concrete. He helped to get a bowling alley in Pomeroy. He sponsored a team for "Trosper Transit Mix" for several years. He was commodore of the Boat Club and spent much time boating on the Snake River. He enjoyed his motorhome and helped to organize the Pataha Valley C. R. Club a few years ago. When his health began to fail in 1976, he sold his business. Then his long fight with cancer began in the Veterans' Hospital in Walla Walla for two operations and in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane for Treatments the past year. He was a life member of the Garfield County Historical Association, Veteran of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, Lewiston Elks, Pomeroy Eagles, The Kiwanis Club and the Senior Citizens. Besides his wife, Lillian, at their home, other survivors are his brother, Bert Trosper, of Newport, Wash.; his sister Betty LaHatt of Prosser, Wash., and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Richardson Brown funeral Home with Rev. Dick McPherson and Rev. Hopkins officiating. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a graveside service. Burial will be in the Pomeroy City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VFW Cancer Fund.
