Description	:	Lloyd McClain Parks, 93, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Columbus, died on April 5, 2005 in Tucson after a brief illness. He was born in Scottsburg, IN on March 21, 1912, the youngest of a farm family of nine children. Read More	Lloyd McClain Parks, 93, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Columbus, died on April 5, 2005 in Tucson after a brief illness. He was born in Scottsburg, IN on March 21, 1912, the youngest of a farm family of nine children. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in pharmacy from Purdue University and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Lloyd was on faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy for 18 years prior to becoming dean and professor at the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy from 1956 to 1977, where he was awarded Dean Emeritus status. Upon retirement in 1977, the OSU Pharmacy building was renamed Lloyd M. Parks Hall in his honor. Lloyd was known for his leadership in pharmaceutical education and his research in pharmaceutical chemistry. He was past president of the American Pharmacists Assn. (APhA) which awarded him the highest honor in pharmacy, the Joseph P. Remington Medal. He also served as president of the American Assn. of Colleges of Pharmacy and Rho Chi national pharmacy honor society. Lloyd was recognized by the Wisconsin Pharmacists Assn. and the Ohio Pharmacists Assn. for outstanding contribution to the profession. He was also awarded the APhA Ebert Prize for outstanding research and the APhA Foundation Research Achievement Award for the Advancement of Pharmacy. Lloyd was granted honorary degrees from Purdue University (1962), Union College (1972), and The Ohio State Univ. (1983). He authored a book and contributed more than 50 papers to the scientific and professional literature in pharmacy. Lloyd was a member of numerous professional and scientific societies and organizations. During WWII, he served 4 years with the US Air Force, including 33 months in the Mediterranean theater of operations as a chemical officer for the 12th AF Service Command, where he earned 9 battle stars and was awarded the Bronze Star. Lloyd held commission as Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve, and later retired. He was an active member of St. Agatha Church, Columbus and St. Pius X Church, Tucson, and the Rotary Club of Columbus. He loved children, gardening and golf. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters, wife Irene (Comiskey) Parks of 40 years; and wife Mary (Kassabaum) Flanagan Parks of 21 years. He was survived by one daughter; one sister; and many nieces, nephews and step-family. He will be missed also by many beloved former students, colleagues and friends, and by his faithful canine companion, Boo. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of Lloyd's life was held on May 7, 2005 in Tucson at St. Pius X Church, and in Columbus, OH on July 30, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Church. Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH.
