She loved life, she loved to laugh (or as many of us fondly remember “cackle”) her laughter was contagious! Read More	There are two kinds of people in this life, the on- lookers and the doers. God blessed us with a doer when he gave us Loa Irene Benton. She loved life, she loved to laugh (or as many of us fondly remember “cackle”) her laughter was contagious! Loa was born in Guthrie County in the summer of 1918 during World War 1 and the Spanish Flu outbreak to Ira & Vera Sheeder. She was raised along with six other brothers and sisters all who have proceeded her in death, except Vera and Delbert (Illene). She was raised with a strong work ethic and a “never give up” attitude... Which is probably what helped her in obtaining her teacher’s degree from Drake University while being a farmer’s wife and raising their 2 daughters. Loa met & married Franklin Benton, Feb.22, 1937 – during a blizzard, none the less. They were blessed with three daughters… Shelva (Larry), Sandra (Donnie) and a little girl they named Betty Lou. Betty Lou was laid to rest when she was only 18 months old. Loa loved kids… she loved playing with them, teaching them and encouraging them. She demonstrated that love almost every day of her adult life. Teaching at a one room school house, her students were from kindergarten to 8th grade. After studying nights and weekends to earn her Teacher’s certificate from Drake University, she went to work at the YJB school district as a 2nd grade teacher. Frog races, stickers for trying new foods, treats if you ate your school lunch, recess, playing hopscotch & tether ball, her heart was in her kids. Loa enjoyed life at every avenue...she loved God and her bible, John Wayne & Louis L’Amour. She loved to garden, fruits and vegetable were her treasures. She enjoyed her flowers and birds, but she LOVED her trees. Loa also had a love for bowling & the people she met and bowled with. She got a kick out of a good card game or learning any new game someone introduced to her. She was a “forward” thinker and embraced new technology and inventions w/zest and vigor. Always eager to see what was next. At the age of almost 101 yrs old, Loa slipped into a peaceful sleep at the New Homestead on April 26, 2019. She said “See you later” to six of her grandkids, Kristina (Dave), David (Kim), Jamie, Linda (Mike), Kenny and Allen. She said “Hello, honey” to her two grandsons, Randy and Rodney Buttler and Frank, her husband of 48 yrs that proceeded her in passing. She left her legacy of laughter to be passed along to her nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She will be greatly missed by her family and numerous friends. Her laughter is a song that will forever play in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
