Mrs. Cawthorn's husband, Sherman (Duke) Cawthorn, parts manager of the Touslee Motor Co. in Atchison, was also injured in the accident. His left leg was torn completely out of the socket and he suffered a severe laceration the left eye. He is a patient at Research hospital in Kansas City. Yesterday afternoon the Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Buck took Mr. Cawthorn's daughter, Phyllis, 13, to Kansas City where she was permitted to visit her father. When Mr. and Mrs. Cawthorn drove to Kansas City yesterday morning on business, Plyllis remained in school here. She is an eighth grade pupil in the junior high school. The family home here is at 511 R street. They moved here in June from Kansas City, Kas. where Mr. Cawthorn worked for the Kansas Motors four years. Previously the home was in Chanute. Yesterday's accident also took the life of Maj. Mamie O. Lindsey, a WAF at Kansas City. She was being driven in a military sedan by 3-c Ernest Navy. The military car, in going down a hill, skidded out of control on a patch of ice and struck a Ford pickup driven by Cawthorn. The pickup was on the right shoulder when hit.
