Description	:	Lois A. Laverty, 67, of New Market died Wednesday, July 28,1993 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. She was born November 22,1925 at Minneapolis, Mn, the daughter of Thomas and Francena Castle Whitney. On May 29,1949 she was married to Kenneth Laverty, who preceded her in death March 1,1981. Laverty was a teacher for 34 years before her retirement in 1988. She had taught in Manning, Albion, Bedford, New Market and Clarinda. Read More	Lois A. Laverty, 67, of New Market died Wednesday, July 28,1993 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. She was born November 22,1925 at Minneapolis, Mn, the daughter of Thomas and Francena Castle Whitney. On May 29,1949 she was married to Kenneth Laverty, who preceded her in death March 1,1981. Laverty was a teacher for 34 years before her retirement in 1988. She had taught in Manning, Albion, Bedford, New Market and Clarinda. Her husband Kenneth had been school superintendent at New Market. She had been active in the New Market United Methodist Church, Clarinda OES and Past Matrons when living at Manning. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, past president of Southwest Iowa Reading Council and life member of the National Education Association. She is survived by a son, Brian Laverty of Phoenix, Az; a daughter, Julie Laverty of Overland Park, Ks; a brother, Grant Whitney of Clarinda. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Hugh. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Visitation will be at Walker Merrick Funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Summitt Cemetery at Yorktown. Memorials may be directed to the New Market United Methodist Church.
