There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 1, at 11:30am at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Rensink September 19, 1918 - March 28, 2016 Mrs. Lois Rensink, age 97, of Orange City passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Orange City Area Health System. There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 1, at 11:30am at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will be prior to the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. There will be a family prayer service on Friday at 10:00am at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Lois Augusta was born on September 19, 1918, in Ash Creek, Minnesota, the daughter of James E. and Rocina (De Boer) Van Gorp. In 1920 her family moved to a farm southeast of Rock Rapids, near Edna. Three years later they moved to a farm south of Hull, where she graduated from the public high school in 1936. She then worked at the Nymeyer “Our Own Hardware” store for four years. On Christmas of 1939 she became engaged to Cornie J. Rensink and they were married on March 21, 1940 at the American Reformed Church in Hull. They farmed near Middleburg for 26 years before he passed on January 31, 1967 at the age of 52. Lois remained on the farm for another two years and then moved to Orange City. For 13 ½ years, she was employed at the Tri-State Livestock Company until 1981. She also assisted cooking at Dinner Date. On June 1, 2012, she moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. On March 10 of this year, she became a resident of Prairie Ridge. Lois was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, where she belonged to the Reformed Church Women’s Ministries, the Priscilla Circle and participated in the Senior Citizens group. In earlier years, she belonged to the American Reformed Church in Hull and the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she taught catechism classes from 1968 to 1975. For 14 years, she was a 4-H leader for the Welcome Peppy Pals club. She was named Sioux County Homemaker of the Year in the late 1950’s. Lois enjoyed league bowling, crocheting, knitting, painting china, playing cards, reading and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona for twelve years. Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands; LaVonne and John R. Schelling of Sioux Center; and Ruth and Warren Dekkers of Orange City; nine grandchildren: Jim (Lynn) Schelling, Sue (Rich) Leaverton, Carl (Kelly) Schelling, Scott (Vicki) Schelling, Dan Dekkers and special friend Sara Peterson, Laura (Vern) Wallace, Brad (Sheila) Dekkers, Bryan (Deanne) Dekkers, and Joanie (Jeff) Harding; twenty six great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Eunice and Don Van Der Weide; a sister-in-law, Joan Van Gorp; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin (Gert) Van Gorp, Earl (Wilma) Van Gorp, Phillip Van Gorp, and Albert (Dorothy) Van Gorp.
