Description	:	Funeral services were held Friday June 1 in the Schaller United Methodist Church for Mrs. Locke McLaughlin, 89, with Rev. Sheridan Mallott officiating. Mrs. LeRoy Pearson, organist, played favorite hymns. Mrs. E.L. Van Buskirk and Mrs. Harold Jensen took care of the many flowers. Interment, under the direction of Farber and Otteman funeral home of Schaller, was in the Schaller cemetery. Attendants were Wayne Blewitt, Ben Christiansen, Malcolm Currie, Raymond Currie, Clarence Parkinson and E.L. Van Buskirk. Lois Blanche, daughter of Christoper and Arminta Hobbs Waddell, was born June 16, 1863 at Early and died May 26, 1973, at Schaller Nursing home within 19 days of reaching her 90th birthday. She moved with her family in her early teens to Schaller and following graduation from Schaller high school taught in country schools in the area. She was united in marriage, November 6, 1901, with William Locke McLaughlin and they were married over 63 years prior to his death in 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son Robert Locke, her parents, and two sons-in-law, C.W. Layman and Rowland Ellis. In 1916 the family moved to Glidden but returned to Schaller in 1956. In 1970, Mrs. McLaughlin went to live at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake where she resided until January of this year when she moved to the Schaller Nursing Home. A member of the Methodist church since girlhood she participated in both the Schaller and Glidden churches and was a life member of Woman's Society of Christian Service. Her hobbies in oil and pastel painting, hooked rugs and articles of needlework will long be remembered. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. C.W. Layman (Lucile) of Des Moines, Mrs. Rowland Ellis (Janette) of Schaller, Mrs. Frank O. Barber (Mary) of Norfolk, Va.; a son-in-law Frank O. Barber; four grandchildren. Mrs. T.R. Childers of Woodbridge, Va., Mrs. J.T. Moore of Keflavik, Iceland, Michael R. Ellis of Fort Dodge and Phillip L. Ellis of Schaller; a great-granddaughter Victoria J. Moore, a sister, Mrs. E.D. Humphries of Sac City, a brother C.H. Waddell of Fort Dodge and many other relatives. Taken from the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune 13 Jun 1973.
