Forcibly these words came to our minds when on Tuesday night, January 18, 1916, Lois C. Roberts departed this life at her home in Dunning, Nebr. after a lingering illness. Lois Cecelia Slonecker, daughter of Joseph K. and Margaret Slonecker, was born on a farm in Fulton county, Ill., Oct. 20, 1856. Brother and Sister Roberts were both born in the same county but did not meet until they moved to Seward county, Nebr., where their parents were pioneers, having come in 1866 and homesteaded. Marion F. Roberts was engaged in farming at the time of their marriage, which occurred on Oct. 20, 1878, at the home of the bride in Seward county. To this union five children were born: John C., Rex R., Vivian C., Mabel (died in infancy) and Olive, wife of R. D. Miner (died in Dunning July 29, 1907). All surviving children were at the bedside at the time of her departure. Two of her sisters, Margaret Cummins and Emily Figard, both of Seward, have been here since Jan. 2nd. Also her cousin, Margaret Renner, who has nursed her so long and whose kindness will never be forgotten by the husband and children. Mrs. Roberts leaves besides the above a brother, Frank Slonecker of Moorefield, Nebr., who just had a limb amputated, which prevents his being present; Joseph Slonecker, of Seward; Mrs. Jennie Campbell; Adele Slonecker of Seward. She was a kind and loving wife and her first interest was in her home. A good neighbor, who was always willing to help, and will be missed in the home and community. She was a member of the Rebeccas, Degree of Honor at Seward, and Royal Neighbors at Dunning, and took much interest in the same. The funeral was held January 20th, Brother Roberts birthday, at the Congregational church at 2 o'clock in the presence of a large circle of friends and neighbors who met to pay the last tribute of respect to an old friend and extend sympathy to those left to mourn.
