Description	:	Lois Boies, 85, of Oelwein passed away Monday June 14, 2021. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Services will begin at 10:30 AM on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established. Lois Carolyn Boies was born in Oelwein on December 7, 1935 to parents William and Carrie (Barnes) Hoth. She attended schools in Oelwein, Viroqua, WI and then graduated from Wausau High School in Wisconsin with the class of 1954. Lois completed nursing training at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids with the class of 1957. On September 29, 1957 she was united in marriage with Richard Boies at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. She then worked as a nurse in Independence, Manchester and Oelwein from 1957-1978 when she joined Richard in owning and operating Dick's Café in Oelwein. Lois was involved in the community as much as her busy life allowed. She served as a Brownie Scout Leader, was a member of the Fraternal Order Of Eagles, Order OF The Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary in Oelwein, TOPS, Faith and Friends and was also proud to be a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Lois enjoyed sewing, a skill taught to her by her mother and father. She also liked to quilt, knit and crochet. When she was not doing that, she could be found with a book in her hands, as she loved to read. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Left to celebrate Lois' life are her children: Christine (Joel) Curtis of Shakopee, MN and Janice (Kevin) Minton of Hazleton; her grandchildren: Nathan Valinski, Megan Oldenburger, Jered Valinski, Melissa Tucker, Kerrie Burroughs, Katie Nolan, Kaela Minton, Cass Minton, Kristie Boies, Billy Boies, Jacob Boies and Alexis Boies; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; her sister-in-law Jeannette Hoth; her daughter-in-laws: Gail Deterding and Julie Boies; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (1996); her sons: Tim Boies (2003) and Dan Boies (2012); her brothers: Eugene Hoth and Larry Hoth; her sister Doris Carolan; her sister-in-law Doris Hoth and her brother-in-law Bernard Carolan.
