She was born Lois D. Young on April 19, 1917, to Chris and Nora (Janes) Young at Toppenish. At a young age, the family moved to Leavenworth, where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1935. In June of 1946, she married Loren Dempsey at Leavenworth and they established their home there. For many years, Lois worked as a packer for the Leavenworth Fruit Company. Her husband died in 1972. Lois then met Bill McCarey and heard music and on Aug. 28, 1976, they were married at Wenatchee. They made their home in Leavenworth, where together they enjoyed their home and beautiful yard, which Lois often referred to as her park. She was an avid bird watcher and was a past member of the Leavenworth garden club, loved horses in her younger years and treasured her memories of hiking and riding in the Leavenworth area. Lois is survived by her husband, William "Bill" McCarey of the family home; her stepchildren, Bruce and Mary Anne Webley of Quincy, Greg and Ceci Wood of East Wenatchee and John McCarey of Wenatchee; eight step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. A Memorial Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Lois D. McCarey, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday evening, May 14, 2001, in the Ward's Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Dan Johnson, officiating. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
