Description	:	Lois Elaine Benson Riddle, 94, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Sanford Medical Center, Aberdeen, SD. At her request, there will be no public services. Lois will be buried at Groton Union Cemetery, Groton, SD. Lois had been residing at the Golden Living Center, Groton. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of her arrangements. At her request, there will be no public services. Lois will be buried at Groton Union Cemetery, Groton, SD. Lois had been residing at the Golden Living Center, Groton. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of her arrangements. Lois Benson was born April 9, 1919, at Verdon, SD, to Leslie and Belva (Feller) Benson. She attended country school at Verdon, and graduated from Groton High School in 1936. After graduation, she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, and worked at Montgomery Ward. In 1942, Lois married William O'Gara in St. Paul, MN, and to this union a daughter was born, Joan. In 1948, she married Jim Riddle in Redfield, SD. Making their home in Aberdeen, Lois worked at the Aberdeen Employment Office. When Jim was transferred to Huron, SD, in 1950, Lois worked in the financial department at Montgomery Ward. In 1958, Jim was transferred to Fargo, North Dakota, and in 1961, Lois and Jim moved to Lakota, ND, where they owned and operated Miller's Truck Stop. In 1968, they moved to St. Paul, MN. After Jim's death in 1972, Lois moved to Aurora, CO, where she worked again at Montgomery Ward. Offered and taking the position as the Club House Director at 1000 South Monaco Condominiums in Denver, CO, she truly enjoyed that "fun" job, as she described it, for five years. In 1980, Lois returned to Aberdeen and worked for Montgomery Ward in the catalog order department until retiring in 1985. Lois was an avid bowler, loved dancing, reading, writing poetry, watching baseball games, and was a NASCAR fan. Lois' wonderfully witty sense of humor will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Grateful for having shared Lois' life are her daughter, Joan (David) Sonntag, Corona de Tucson, AZ; four granddaughters, Julie (Tom) Egli, Woodlawn, TN; Jayne Norton (Fiancé Bill Johnston), Tucson, AZ; Jill (Tim) Gallagher, Tucson, AZ; and Jody (Ken) Kleker, Phoenix, AZ; two great-grandsons, Liam O'Shea and James Cudney; four sisters, Betty Dunker, Groton, SD; Doraine Green, Claremont, SD; Phyllis Olson, Minneapolis, MN; and Leslie (Don) Pigors, Ferney, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and three sisters, Vella Schmieg, Norma Schwiesow and Nancy Zeck. - Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home
