Description	:	Mrs. Lois I. Geise, 95, Grand Mound, Iowa, died Thursday evening April 20, 2006 at Westwing Place, DeWitt, Iowa, where she has been a resident since December 2004. Mrs. Geise, the former Lois Imogene Barber, was born May 18, 1910 to Albert Franklin and Sabina Lois (Downs) Barber in Grand Mound. Her great-grandfather, Nathaniel Barber was one of the original homesteaders in what became Orange Township settling South of Grand Mound in 1838. She married Bert R. Geise, 95, Grand Mound, Iowa, died Thursday evening April 20, 2006 at Westwing Place, DeWitt, Iowa, where she has been a resident since December 2004. Mrs. Geise, the former Lois Imogene Barber, was born May 18, 1910 to Albert Franklin and Sabina Lois (Downs) Barber in Grand Mound. Her great-grandfather, Nathaniel Barber was one of the original homesteaders in what became Orange Township settling South of Grand Mound in 1838. She married Bert R. Geise, Jr. in 1933 in Rushville, Illinois. The couple operated a Skelly gas station on Highway 30 where Lois ran the lunch counter. Lois also worked for years in the school hot lunch porgram. She also served her community as the part-time postal clerk for several years. She loved music and dancing having grown up during the roaring 20's. Lois was a founding member of the DD's (Depression Dozen) Bridge Club and continued playing cards as part of that group for over 60 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound the Order of Eastern Star and the Pythian Sisters. Lois is survived by her son, Barry, four grandchildren, one step-grandson, seven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert in 1978, a daughter, Lynn Hawthorne, her parents, a brother, Wayne Barber and a sister, Ruth Petersen. The family will greet friends at St. Paul Methodist Church, Grand Mound, from 11 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Church. The Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Pallbearers will be Jay Hawthorne, Jesse Hawthorne, Zach Mohr, Dean Geise, Brad Geise and James Grell.
