Lois Jannett (Howard) VandenBos was born on June 9, 1920 to Edward and Alice (Henthorne) Howard in Charles Mix County, SD near Platte. Read More	Lois VandenBos, 94, of Platte, SD passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at her son’s home. Lois Jannett (Howard) VandenBos was born on June 9, 1920 to Edward and Alice (Henthorne) Howard in Charles Mix County, SD near Platte. She attended school in Wheeler, SD and in the nearest country school west of Platte. She graduated from the 8th grade and from then on was self taught. During teenage years, she cleaned houses and served as a nanny. Later, she was a full-service employee of the Gamble Store in Platte. On June 28, 1944 Lois was united in marriage in Platte to Fred Leo VandenBos of Platte. Together they farmed near Platte, before retiring in Platte. Lois committed her life to the LORD at the age of 12. Since marriage, she has been a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church, where she experienced God’s faithfulness and blessings serving in various ladies ministries of the church. Coffee break Bible Study was a special joy to her. For many years, Lois critiqued Bible Study lessons for and wrote letters to Crossroads prisoners. Late in life, she took up the hobby of quilting. Lois was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Alice Howard; husband: Fred VandenBos; two infant grandchildren: Lori Baas and Brian VandenBos; two brothers: Lawrence and Leslie Howard; four sisters: Rena Cole, Opal Howard, Vera Buck and Irma Balcom; and all her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
