She was surrounded by her husband, her children and granddaughter, Andrea. Lois Jean Winslow was born on September 30, 1922, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Charles Wilbur Fowler and Hazel Ione (Crume) Fowler. She was united in marriage to Rev. Read More	Lois Jean (Fowler) Winslow Born: Sat., Sep. 30, 1922 Died: Tue., Apr. 22, 2014 Lois "Jean" Winslow passed peacefully from earth to Heaven at 4:50 pm, April 22, 2014, at Heritage Pointe in Warren, Indiana. She was surrounded by her husband, her children and granddaughter, Andrea. Lois Jean Winslow was born on September 30, 1922, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Charles Wilbur Fowler and Hazel Ione (Crume) Fowler. She was united in marriage to Rev. Verl Wesley Winslow on January 25, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jean was an excellent homemaker, cook and financier. The Winslow home was filled with storytelling, laughter, counseling and love. Mom's response to questions about life was to search the scriptures. She was an avid reader and lover of the Word, which proved invaluable as a pastor's wife. Following graduation in 1940 from Kokomo High School Jean graduated from Fox Beauty School and set up a beauty shop in her parents' home. She pursued this career while her husband was "seeing the world" during World War II. She also worked for Dr. Mayfield from 1948-50. Jean began her college career by taking religion classes at Kletzing College in Oskaloosa, Iowa; she then studied History and English at IU Indianapolis; followed by Science courses at Butler University; and graduated from Indiana State College with a teaching degree in 1963. She received her Master's Degree in 1970. She was an excellent elementary teacher who required much from her students, but gave even more of herself to their education. Her teaching career began at James Robey Elementary in Clermont, Indiana, and continued to Bon Air Elementary and Wallace Elementary in Kokomo; retiring in 1982. One of her fond memories was a European tour she took as a sponsor with the IUK Singers in 1974. When asked, she would say her greatest blessings were finding Christ, marrying Verl, having three children and serving others. Her survivors include her husband, Verl; Son/Stephen (Kathy) Winslow, Greencastle, Indiana; Daughter/Marcia Bagwell, Greentown, Indiana; Son/David (Carolyn) Winslow, Kokomo, Indiana. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Michelle (Ed) Fletcher, Avon, Indiana; Stephen II (Nicki) Winslow, Greencastle, Indiana; Yvonne (Dan) Miller, Greencastle, Indiana; Matt Winslow, Greencastle, Indiana; Leslie (Mike) Walden, Greentown, Indiana; Justin Martin, Greentown, Indiana; Andrea (John) Taylor, Kokomo, Indiana. Jean is also the great-grandmother of 27 and the great-great grandmother of 5. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Fowler from Kokomo, Indiana; a sister, Janice Davis, from Kokomo, Indiana; and a sister, Joan Hancock, from Kokomo, Indiana. Service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Morning Star Church, 2900 E. Markland, Kokomo, IN, with Keith Davis presiding. Burial will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. Visitation will also be at the church from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, preceding the service.
