She died April 14, 2019 at Westfield Quality Care Center in Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 90 years. On September 28, 1947 she was united in marriage with Carl B. Saathoff, the daughter of Fredrick M. and Minnie (Helwig) Sigman was born August 4, 1928 on their farm home north of Edgar. She died April 14, 2019 at Westfield Quality Care Center in Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 90 years. On September 28, 1947 she was united in marriage with Carl B. Saathoff at the Methodist Church in Edgar, Nebraska. The union was blessed with the birth of four children, two sons and two daughters. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Edgar and then a charter member of The Church of the Plains. She fully participated in the life of the church by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served as an officer for Presbyterian Women locally and on Presbytery as Moderator, served as an Elder on the Session, and was a mentor to many on their faith journeys. Lois was active in the community as a member of Junior Women’s Club. M.N.O Club, P.E.O, Edgar Community Club, Edgar Development Board, Edgar Foundation, and served a total of 14 years on the City of Edgar and the Edgar Planning Board and City Council. She served 30 years as an E.M.T. with the Edgar Fire Department. She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader; serving as the first woman leader in the Council for a Webelos Den. Lois was a rural school teacher, store clerk, secretary, and helped run the family farm. In 1976 Carl and Lois purchased the hardware store in Edgar until its closing in 2006. Lois enjoyed working with people, raising flowers, needlework, farming and the hardware store. In early years she enjoyed horseback riding, working on the farm, driving the tractor irrigating, painting and finishing wood. She is survived by one daughter, Carla J. (Randy) Gunn of Shelton, Nebraska, one son Scott K. Saathoff of Ft. Collins, Colorado, one daughter-in-law Roberta Diane Saathoff of Fairfield, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Kelly (Brent) Anderson of Edgar, Nebraska, Kristin (Clarence) Charles of Hastings, Nebraska, Brandon Gunn and (Macy Heathers) of Grand Island, Nebraska, Tasha Saathoff of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jonathan Saathoff of Seward, Nebraska, and Benjamin Saathoff of Malcom, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren: Courtney Anderson of Hastings, Nebraska, Keifer Anderson of Edgar, Nebraska, Oliver Charles of Hastings, Nebraska, and Jace Heathers of Grand Island, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Jack Sigman, one sister JoAnn Meyer, her husband Carl, one son Tony S. Saathoff, and one daughter Darci Dale Saathoff. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, 10:30 am, April 26, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home in Edgar with Rev. Ethan Feistner officiating. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers and may be given to The Church of the Plains or the Edgar Fire Department and E.M.T. Unit.
