Read More	Lois Jeanette Griswold was born Oct 3, 1907, and died May 22, 1988. Age 80, Lois was born in Amador County community of Jackson. She traced her roots to some of California's earliest settlers in the gold country. Her parents were Thomas Burrow Jr. and the former Mae Thorpe, both born in Murphys. Her grandfather, Edson Thorpe, built a bakery in Murphys that still stands. She attended college at what now is Fresno State University and after receiving her degree in 1927 and a teaching credential, she came to Kings County as a home economics instructor at Hanford High School. She taught there between 1930 and 1937. During that period she met her husband-to-be, Harold Ernest Griswold, and they returned to Jackson to be married on August 3, 1935, in the Burrow family home. She joined the Hanford United Methodist Church 58 years before her death and for many years was involved in both youth work and women's activities. She and her husband were adult leaders of the Epworth League, the United Methodist Youth Fellowship, and she also taught a high school age girl's class. She was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service and United Methodist Women, serving as president for several years and as a group leader, as well as on the district cabinet in charge of youth programs. She also was a member of the 20th Century Round Table, the oldest study club in the county. The Griswold's served as Kings River-Hardwick King and Queen for the 1987 Kings County Homecoming celebration. Surviving were her husband, Harold, and two sons, Galen and Gerald Griswold.
