Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Mon- day, Nov. 10, at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where a parish scripture service will be at 4:30 p.m. She was born on Dec. 6, 1931, in Farley, the seventh of 11 children born to Albert and Alvina (Vorwald) Heiring. She graduated from Holy Cross High School with the Class of 1949. She married Duane A. "Pete" Ross on Nov. 26, 1949, in Holy Cross; he preceded her in death on May 16, 1990. Lois was a postal employee from 1960, until retiring as Postmaster in 1990. She was a member of the Holy Cross Parish and its Rosary Society, living in Holy Cross for over 63 years. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the League of Postmasters. She also was a social worker of the Office of Economic Opportunity from 1967 to 1982. She was an antique dealer and the owner of Back Door Antiques in Holy Cross for over 17 years. Lois was an avid euchre player, reader and a published writer. She had a great interest in music and spent much of her leisure time leading both family and friends in sing-alongs on the piano. She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin on the Mississippi River. Surviving are her children, Deborah (Carmen) Castillo, of Moline, Ill., Steve (Deb) Ross, of Farley, Iowa, Kevin (Rabecca Miller) Ross, of Holy Cross, Cathy (Barney) Rohrer, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Peggy (Dean) Hendricks, of Earlville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Lue Heying, of Dubuque, Mae McGuire, of Cedar Rapids, Gerald "Tink" (Betty) Heiring, of Marshfield, Wis., Elaine Williams, of Tacoma, Wash., Darlene Rusch, of Holy Cross, Shirley Klein, of Rickardsville, and Joyce (Mike) Salatino, of Wauna, Wash.; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Heiring, of Prairie DuChein, Wis. and Kay Ross, of Holy Cross. She also was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Sedele (Gib) Tegeler and Helen (Ted) Bakula; a brother, Donald "Doc" Heiring; and brothers-in-law, Wally Heying, Bill McGuire, Dave Williams, Lee Rusch, Gene Klein and Gary Ross.
