Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Randall L. Dilts will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Studley was born July 17, 1919, on the family farm west of Cedar Bluffs, the daughter of Guy and Edythe (Tabler) Martin. She was united in marriage to Leo Studley on July 17, 1939, at North Platte. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1991. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and LaDonna Studley of LaMars, Iowa and Dennis and MuCha Studley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Darrell Hollman of Grand Island and DeEtte and Don Lukasiewicz of St. Paul. She also leaves to cherish her memory, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. When Lois was 1 ½ years old her parents entered her in the Better Babies Contest at the Saunders County Fair. She was judged the best baby and won a blue ribbon and silver cup. Proud parents! She began her education at District 13 in Saunders County and later at Cedar Bluffs Schools, where she graduated in 1936. The family moved that Spring to Wolbach to make their home. She earned a scholarship to Midlands College in Fremont, where she received her General Elementary Teachers Certificate. She then taught school for two years in Greeley County before her marriage to Leo. The couple first lived with Leo’s parents until 1940, when they moved to a farm east of Wolbach. Lois then taught in Howard County rural schools and continued her education at Kearney State College, where she received her degree in 1961. Over the years she also earned an additional 36 hours in elementary education. The family moved to St. Paul in 1955. She then taught at St. Paul Public Schools for nine years. She left teaching to become the Howard County Welfare Director, a position she held for four years. She returned to St. Paul Public Schools, where she taught the Title 1 programs. She retired in 1981, after 33 ½ years of teaching. After retirement, she and Leo enjoyed their time at Sherman Lake, where they loved boating, fishing and camping with family and friends. She was a lifetime member of United Methodist Church, an active member of United Methodist Women and bible studies in church and at Matelyn Retirement Community., and had served as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 of St. Paul, St. Paul Country Quilters, Home Improvement Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed music, reading, gardening, quilting and traveling and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Leo, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael Studley; great-granddaughter, Anne Kumm; and a brother, Evan Martin.
