Description	:	Lon Edward Springer, age 70, of Edgar, died Sunday February 1, 2009 at his home. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 4th at The Church of the Plains in Edgar. Lon requested that his body be donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Private burial will be at a later date. Williams Funeral Home in Edgar is in charge of arrangements. Lon was born May 5, 1938 in Hastings, NE to Howard and Laura Springer. He graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1956. On May 14, 1956, he married Deloris Buerer. Lon served in the Air Force before returning home to operate Springer Oil Company and the family farm. He farmed and drove a truck until December 2008. Lon had been a member of the Edgar Fire Department and Edgar EMT's, served on the Sandy Creek School board, was a long-time member of the Edgar Lions Club serving as their treasurer for many years. In 2003, he recieved the Lions highest honor, the Melvin Jones Award. Lon was an active member of the Church of the Plains, also serving as treasurer for a number of years. Lon's favorite pastimes included: hunting, four-wheeling, traveling, grandchildren's ballgames, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, their children and spouses; Doug and Cindy Springer of Clarks, Dan and Sue Springer of Grand Island, Darrel and Jean Springer of Edgar, and Lynette and Steve Belknap of Fort Worth, Texas, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; a sister and her spouse Nancy and Roger Downs of Oxford.
