Description	:	Lona Courtney Honeysett, life-long resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died July 30, 2008, in Cashmere. She was 92. Lona was born March 7, 1916, to Joe and Tina (Watson) Miller on Badger Mountain. Lona was born March 7, 1916, to Joe and Tina (Watson) Miller on Badger Mountain. Her school days began at the Columbia Heights School located on the Badger Mountain grade, behind the old Fancher Field Airport. In 1925, the family moved to lower Sunnyslope. She attended school at Sunnyslope and later at Leavenworth, Monitor and Malaga. Lona graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1936, and the Wenatchee Business College in 1937. In the fall of 1937, Lona joined The Wenatchee World Newspaper, a company she remained with until retiring in 1978. In retirement she continued working for the paper, editing the 20-40-75-year columns for another eight years. In 1955, Lona married Laurence Courtney of Stehekin. After Laurence's death in 1986, she married Harlan Honeysett of Wenatchee in 1992. Harlan passed away in 2000. Lona's honors include the Washington Press Women's Sugar Plum Award, given in 1966, for her outstanding achievement and community service in the field of communication. In 1978, she was given a life membership in the Heritage Society of the Mid-Columbia for her contribution toward preserving the cultural heritage of this region. Lona was a member of the Central Christian Church, the Wenatchee Chatelaines Club and North Central Washington Historical Society. She also represented the Malaga community as their Apple Blossom Princess while attending high school. Few people knew that Lona was also a pilot. Surviving are two sons, Joe of Mercer Island and Marvin of Moses Lake; two step-sons, Bill Honeysett of Tacoma and Dick Honeysett of Chelan; five grandchildren, Danielle of Bellingham, David of Mercer Island, Andrea of East Wenatchee and Douglas and Maria, both of Moses Lake. Lona is also survived by four step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. Two brothers; and one sister preceded Lona in death. Graveside Services for Lona will take place at the Wenatchee City Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008. Visitation is available at Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home in Wenatchee from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2008, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be given to your favorite charity.
