Description	:	Lora was born in 1870 near Rockwood, in Berlin Township, Monroe County, Michigan, to Mary Peters and her first husband, Charles McMillan. Sometime after 1872 her mother Mary married a widower named Henry Drake, and in 1880 they were all living in Berlin Township, together with Henry's previous children. Sometime after 1872 her mother Mary married a widower named Henry Drake, and in 1880 they were all living in Berlin Township, together with Henry's previous children. Soon after that, however, Mary and Henry divorced, and Lora's life became unsettled. Mary and Lora moved to Sherwood, Ohio, where in 1882 Mary became partners with her half-brother Elmer J. Potter in a medical practice and drug store. In August, 1883, Mary and Lora moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Mary enrolled in the Eclectic Medical Institute. After Mary graduated in June, 1885, she married classmate Gettis Starner, who was nine years younger. But the marriage did not last long, and by October of 1886 Mary and Lora were living in Fremont, Sandusky County, while Gettis Starner was living in Blakeslee, Williams County. By early 1887 Mary and Lora had moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Mary practiced medicine, and by June they had settled a homestead on Cheyenne County, in the northwest corner of Kansas. In 1889 they moved to Saint Francis, a railroad town founded in late 1887 in the same county. In 1890 both Lora and her mother got married. Lora was married to Peter J. Kreuscher, co-owner, with E. D. Nixon, of a general store in Saint Francis. Peter's family had come to St. Francis from Wisconsin, via Nebraska. Lora's mother Mary was married to Rev. Benjamin Franklin Williams on July 3, 1890, at Mary's home in St. Francis. Benjamin had come from Illinois, via Missouri. Lora had been an only child for 21 years, but on June 5, 1891, her mother Mary gave her a brother when she delivered a son, Carl Decker Williams, in Saint Francis. Five months later, on Nov 23, 1891, Lora give birth to a son of her own, Dale Chapman Kreuscher. Lora named him in part after Mary's mother, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Chapman. Peter and Lora's house was in the business district. In the early hours of April 27, 1899, a fire broke out in a grocery store belonging to Milton S. Ford and quickly spread. A newspaper gave this account, as repeated in , p. 159: "C.A. Lotz, who slept in the west side of the old Brenaman building discovered the fire and after alarming Mr. and Mrs. Kreuscher ran to the store to save what goods he could. Mrs. Kreuscher, unmindful of her own property, ran to the church and rang the alarm that roused the town [at 2:30 a.m.]. The fire worked eastward, fanned by a southwest wind … When it was assured that the fire was under control, which wasn't until noon, a mighty shout went up that waked the echoes … It is believed a block and a half was in ruins … Many deeds of heroism were performed that will long be gratefully remembered by our people, but the women and girls of St. Francis immortalized themselves and earned for themselves something more than the admiration and praise of their brothers." At least 14 businesses were destroyed and one home, that of the Kreuschers. Lora's mother Mary had separated from her husband Benjamin Williams in 1895, and she had moved back to Michigan with her son Carl, where they lived with her own mother and she practiced medicine. In 1902, Lora and her son Dale went to Michigan and visited Mary, Carl, and their relatives. Not long afterwards Mary was reconciled to her husband, and she and Carl lived with him in Kirksville, Missouri. Then in 1914 they all moved to Colorado, not far from St. Francis, from where Mary visited Lora and her family. Lora's son Dale grew up in Saint Francis, but when he was grown, he went to De Witt, Nebraska, where father had relatives, and got a job as a cashier in a bank. There he married a local girl and settled down. Lora did not move around like her mother had. She and Peter lived out their lives in Saint Francis, yet both died while out of state. Peter died Missouri in 1923, and Lora died in Colorado in 1926, perhaps while visiting her mother Mary. Her mother died the next year, in 1927, also in Colorado. All three are buried in Saint Francis Cemetery.
