LORAN ELMER JORGENSEN was born to Elmer and Lillian (Ness) Jorgensen on December 16th, 1936 at Lemmon, SD. He grew up in the Lemmon and White Butte area and went to school at Liberty Country School to the 8th grade. He then went to Lemmon High School and graduated in 1954. Loran worked for the Remington Mink Ranch for better than a year. He also did some farming, was a farm-hand for the Johnson's of Shadehill, SD and other farmers. Loran was also a service station attendant for several years. He married Carol Lee Remington in 1960 and a daughter, Liliane, was born to them. Loran later married Marlys Rook of Lemmon, SD and they lived in Belle Fourche, SD until 1994 and in May of 1995 he entered into the Hillcrest Care Center due to injuries suffered in a fall. Loran loved to dance, even if he had only one arm, it never slowed him down. The task of driving a truck even manual transmissions, were not a problem for him. It just came naturally. He loved watching westerns on T.V. or reading western novels. Loran loved visiting or just plain listening to people. Loran passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Lilaine (Fred) Brawner, of Hettinger; grandchildren, Tara Thomas, of Max, ND, Lalisa Brawner and Layton Brawner, both of Hettinger; three great granddaughters, Myki, Taylor and Chloe Thomas, of Max, ND; two sisters, Elaine Cooper, of Mobridge, SD and Flower Defronzo, of Port Orchard, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Loran in death were his parents and several aunts and uncles.
