Description	:	Lorance Hippen, 79, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City. He and his twin sister Laura were born on June 15, 1931, to George and Rebecca (Schmidt) Hippen, German immigrants, in Beatrice. He was one minute older than his sister. Read More	Lorance Hippen, 79, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City. He and his twin sister Laura were born on June 15, 1931, to George and Rebecca (Schmidt) Hippen, German immigrants, in Beatrice. He was one minute older than his sister. Growing up near Adams, he attended rural school one year and then went to Filley Public Schools until the 5th grade. Upon entering elementary school, Lorenz (his Christian name) spoke only German. His family moved to Lewiston the next year and he entered Lewiston Consolidated Schools, where he was active in FFA and sports. His love was baseball. He was confirmed June 9, 1946, at the American Lutheran Church in Filley. He graduated from Lewiston in 1950 and was drafted for the armed services but was declined for physical reasons. He lived within three miles of Lewiston the rest of his life. He married Charlene Lovitt June 13, 1954, at the American Lutheran Church in Filley and they started their family with Kathy in 1954, followed by Kent in 1961 and Keith in 1966. During the early ‘80s, he and Charlene became foster parents to Melissa Juilfs. Lorance and his family were active members of Peace Lutheran Church in Lewiston until it closed in the 1990s, then he worshiped at American Lutheran Church in Filley once again. He also refereed high school football and basketball for more than 30 years in southeast Nebraska. He contributed many years to the Flying Tigers 4-H Club while his children participated. Lorance believed strongly in an education and supported his alma mater through out his life. This patronage continued while his grandkids participated in sports at Lewiston and lasted until the day he died. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; sister and brother-in-law, Arene and Henry Janssen; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Irene Hippen; sister-in-law, Ruth Hippen. He is survived by wife, Charlene Hippen of Lewiston; daughters, Kathy Ideus and husband Duane of Burchard, Melissa Juilfs and husband Scott of Corpus Christi, Texas; sons, Kent Hippen and wife Yvette of rural Virginia, Keith Hippen of Omaha; grandchildren, Emily Ideus of Filley, Ben and wife Kristine Ideus of Johnson, Tanner and Treyton Hippen of rural Virginia, Whitney Hippen of Beatrice; great-grandchildren, Tana Antons of Beatrice, Landon Ideus of Johnson; brothers, Clarence and wife Arlene Hippen of Beatrice, Erwin and wife Pat Hippen of Topeka, Kan.; twin sister, Laura and husband Kenneth Mort of Pawnee City; many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the American Lutheran Church in Filley. Officiating Pastor Melody Brindel. Register book will be available to sign from 2-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary in Pawnee City. Inurnment will be at the Lewiston Cemetery, Lewiston, at a later date. Memorials will be to the family's choice. Arrangements provided by Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City.
