Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. Mr. McCarthy farmed in the rural Cascade area and was employed with the city of Cascade. He was born on Oct. 21, 1919, in Bernard, son of William and Anna (Johnson) McCarthy. He married Isabelle Koob on Sept. 24, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade; she preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2002. He received his education in the Garryowen area schools. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, and a past member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau and the Cascade Sportsman Club. Surviving are three sons, Loras "L.J." (Najette) McCarthy, of Onslow, Donald (Sandy) McCarthy, of Monticello, and Edward (Sharon) McCarthy, of Cascade; nine grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Heacock, of Asbury, Joan (Eldon) Schmitt, of Peosta, and Mary Smith, of Graf; and a brother, Robert (Doreen) McCarthy, of Dubuque; and two sisters-in-law, Hilda Kedley and Mary McCarthy, both of Dubuque. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lorraine Hass and Eileen McCarthy; and three brothers, Orland, Justin and William McCarthy.
