Description	:	Loren Charles Skillman, 71, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 6, 2017, at his home. Loren was born on August 17, 1945, at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, KS, the son of Albert and C. Aileen (Decker) Skillman. He grew up on the Skillman Homestead north of Burlington. Loren attended Martindale schools and then Burlington High School, graduating in 1964. He raised corn, wheat and soybeans, as well as many cattle and hogs. On June... Read More	Loren Charles Skillman, 71, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 6, 2017, at his home. Loren was born on August 17, 1945, at St. Mary's Hospital in Emporia, KS, the son of Albert and C. Aileen (Decker) Skillman. He grew up on the Skillman Homestead north of Burlington. Loren attended Martindale schools and then Burlington High School, graduating in 1964. After high school, he began farming in the Prairie View neighborhood southwest of Waverly, KS, along with continuing to help his parents on their farm. He raised corn, wheat and soybeans, as well as many cattle and hogs. On June 4, 1966, he married Linda Lou Lewis at Burlington, in which they were blessed with six children. They later divorced in 1984. He dedicated his life to raising his children and was an incredible father and teacher! Along with farming, Loren worked as a concrete laborer for Harold Fischer Construction, traveling around eastern Kansas laying flatwork, building basements and bridges. In 1990, he went to work for Skillman Construction, LLC, as a full-time dozer operator, until his retirement in 2015. During that time, Loren built approximately 800 ponds, 50 miles of terraces, over 200 acres of waterways and pushed over 2000 acres of trees. Loren led an active life, which included activities such as men's league bowling, deer hunting in Colorado, quail hunting, fishing, being a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Some spare time was spent at Buddies Bar & Grill with friends and neighbors, drinking beer and sharing good times. His most enjoyable times were spent with his children, grandchildren, his great- granddaughter Emma Elaine and family reunions with homemade ice cream! Loren was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Marion Joseph, an infant granddaughter Destiny, a son-in-law Mike Myers and many beloved aunts & uncles. He is survived by his children; Mike (Jo) Skillman, Diani Myers, Doug Skillman, Kimberly (Tom) Robrahn, all of Burlington; Chris (Sheri) Skillman of Waverly; and Kurt Skillman of Osage City; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; a brother, Levan Skillman, Burlington; two sisters, Sylvia (Theron) Metzger, Burlington, and Catherine (Dennis) Murphy, Strong City; many nieces and nephews; and special life-long friends Gerald & Bev Laws and Walter Spencer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, with visitation from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
