Loren was born on March 20, 1932 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Harold and Luella (Van Raden) Smith. He was raised in Waverly and graduated from the Waverly High School in 1950. "Bud" Smith, age 77, of Waverly, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Waverly Health Care Center. Loren was born on March 20, 1932 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Harold and Luella (Van Raden) Smith. He was raised in Waverly and graduated from the Waverly High School in 1950. In 1951 Bud entered the United States Army where he served during the Korean War and earned three bronze stars and the Purple Heart. On August 31, 1958 Bud was united in marriage to Patricia Hunemiller at the United Methodist Church in Waverly. During his life Bud worked for a dairy company, a bakery, for the Chevrolet Garages in Shell Rock and Waverly, owned and operated Smith and Wilson Garage in Waverly and for Carnation/Nestle in Waverly for 32 years. He retired on April 21, 1994. Bud's enjoyments included gardening, fixing antique clocks and watches, working on cars, watching the squirrels and hummingbirds, feeding the turkeys, and most of all spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Bud was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and 50 year member of the VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 15, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will follow at the St. Paul's Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 P.M. A memorial has been established to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
