Friends and relatives are invited to gather at the Houseman Family Funeral Home in Clear Lake on Saturday, August 30th for a visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will meet from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Loren William TeKrony was born on February 8, 1945 at Watertown, SD, the second son born to Albert and Wilma (Kreger) TeKrony. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. His younger years were spent with the family on farms in Havana and Clear Lake Townships and attended grade school in his early years at a country school. He attended Clear Lake High School where he participated in football, basketball and track. He graduated in May of 1963, and in the fall of that year attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD where he played football. On May 23, 1964 he married Lela Siegfried at the Baptist Church in Goodwin, SD. To this union three children were born - Lisa, Lon and Lane. Following his one year of college he was employed as a lineman at H-D Electric Cooperative in Clear Lake, a position he held for 18 years. He and Lela then purchased the Town & Country service station located on the south edge of Clear Lake where they were kept very busy with pumping gas, selling tires and bulk delivery of fuel. Over the next 12 years they met many people and became friends with many of their customers. During his years with H-D Electric and at the gas station, he also raised cattle and sheep on a farm northeast of Clear Lake. His love for farming and ranching increased during those years and after selling the gas station, he devoted his attention to full time ranching, raising additional cattle and sheep. The farm is now owned by his son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Jessica TeKrony. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, was a member of the Clear Lake Fire Department for many years, served on the Clear Lake city council, and was a member of the Deuel County Memorial Hospital advisory board. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Crystal Springs Ranch Rodeo in 1989, a position he held until the spring of 2007. He also served on the "chain gang" at Clear Lake/Deuel High School football games, and was honored for 25 years of service by being presented the "Friend of Athletics Award" from the South Dakota High School Athletic Directors Association. He attended and watched his children and now his grandchildren perform in sports, spent time giving four-wheeler rides to his grandchildren, and enjoyed his team of horses, giving wagon rides to his family, grandchildren and friends. He also took the team and wagon to many parades in the area. Raising cattle and sheep were his livelihood and he went the extra mile when newborn lambs and calves were born on the farm. He prided himself on keeping the newborns alive, even to the point of spending countless hours on one lamb or calf that might not have lived without his tender care. Loren is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lela; one daughter, Lisa and Rory Olerud of Clear Lake, SD; two sons, Lon and Starla TeKrony of Wheaton, MN and Lane and Jessica TeKrony of Clear Lake, SD; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Chance Olerud of Clear Lake, SD; Shaela, Kassidy and Mavrik TeKrony of Wheaton, MN; and Justin, Jace, Kaden and Kaleb TeKrony of Clear Lake, SD; one brother, Dennis and Eileen TeKrony of Lexington, KY; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Wilma TeKrony.
